Welcome to Hawkesbury heritage & happenings...
This blog will focus on stories and information about places and people in the Hawkesbury district of NSW, Australia. It will contain local history and family history articles plus a little bit of this and a bit of that compiled by Michelle Nichols.

About me

I have always had an avid interest in history and studied both local and family history, eventually obtaining a MA in History. For over 30 years, I have been involved in promoting history and received an OAM in 2001 for my work in local history.

I regularly contribute articles for publication in various magazines and newsletters and have written a number of local histories including Disastrous Decade: Flood and Fire in Windsor 1864 -1874 (Deerubbin Press, 2001); Hawkesbury Pictorial History (Kingsclear Books, 2004) and co-wrote Hawkesbury 1794-1994 with Jan Barkley Jack in 1994 as well as supplying research for a number of publications, including Hawkesbury Heritage by Stan Stevens.

For many years I have been a professional researcher undertaking both local and family history research on behalf of others. Over the years I have spoken on a variety of topics relating to family and local history, to various groups.

Born and bred in the Hawkesbury I have been researching my own family, many of whom settled in the Hawkesbury, Wollombi and Riverstone districts, for many years. A keen photographer, an enthusiastic researcher, I am currently working on several projects including a biographical study on McGraths Hill Cemetery and a history of the Sackville/Wilberforce/Ebenezer localities. In my spare time I update my various social media pages and assist husband Jonathan Auld with transcribing Hawkesbury cemeteries, church registers, monuments and resources on Hawkesbury on the Net
